Questions to Avoid
- Questions about race, religion or ethnicity, such as:
- Are you biracial?
- Which church do you attend?
- What language(s) do you speak at home?
- Where were you born?
- What nationality are you?
- What accent is that?
- Questions about age
- You sound so young, how old are you?
- What is your birthdate and year?
- When did you graduate high school?
- Questions about pregnancy or plans to start a family, such as:
- Are you pregnant?
- Do you plan to have children within the next year?
- Are you married?
- Questions about disabilities
- Are you disabled?
- Have you ever had a workplace injury?
- Questions about gender, gender identity, or orientation
- What’s your sexual orientation?
- What’s your gender?
- If it is important that your Freedom Maker align to a certain mission, it is important to phrase the questions in a way that doesn’t discriminate.
- “My business mission supports the following causes (X, Y, Z), and it is important to me that my team is passionate about them. Are you passionate about X, Y, and Z?”
- Or, “I need my team to be comfortable around me. I am passionate about (X, Y, Z). Are you able to support me in that environment?”
